This symposium integrates theory and legal practice in the area of forgiveness and reconciliation.

• The first panel discusses forgiveness and apology from the philosophical and social science perspectives.
• Keynoter Jens Meierhenrich (Harvard) shares insights from his recent book, The Legacies of Law (Cambridge 2008) on the function of legal norms and institutions in the transition to and from apartheid in South Africa.
• In the second panel, legal scholars discuss forgiveness in the context of family law, with an emphasis on healing divorce; and therapeutic jurisprudence, moving from adversarialism to greater mutuality in the practice of law. In addition, an activist who promotes full disclosure in medical malpractice cases speaks about the actual and potential impact of his organization's approach on health care costs.
